You must not send any item addressed to a country in which the item is unlawful or prohibited. When an item is restricted you must comply with the restriction. Prohibitions and restrictions vary from country to country, and can sometimes apply to items which you may think are ordinary. The information below is provided in good faith, but Royal Mail is not responsible for it, and it should be viewed as a guide only. Specific restrictions and changes may be enforced at short notice, so for clarification please contact the destination country's trade, postal, and customs authorities as appropriate. Prohibited items
Prohibited products are not permitted in the mail under any circumstances.
- Military weapons, firearms and bladed weapons for civilian service, ammunition, special dual purpose (civilian and military) technical devices, and parts and accessories thereof, electroshock weapons
- Nuclear materials and equipment; radioactive materials, fuels and corrosive materials. Explosives and explosive or inflammable substances, pyrotechnic articles (fireworks, etc.) and other dangerous materials
- Narcotics, psychotropic substances and precursors
- Poisons, toxic substances of animal origin
- Live animals, except bees, leeches and silkworms
- Rare animal and vegetable products and endangered animals and plants
- Perishable foodstuffs
- Publications, printed matter, plastic audio-visual materials (video, etc.) containing propaganda against the political regime and liable to threaten the integrity and security of the State or aimed at undermining its authority. Materials that promote war, cruelty, violence, social, racial, national, religious, genetic or caste superiority and any other immoral article (pornography)
- Articles which, by their nature or packaging, may present a danger to the life or health of postal officials, or may soil or damage other postal items or postal equipment
- Foreign currency
- Coins, banknotes, letters of credit or securities payable to bearer, cheques
- Precious metals, whether manufactured or not, precious stones, jewels or other valuable articles (in uninsured letter-post and parcel-post items)
- Vaporizers (electronic cigarettes, electronic pipes, electronic cigars and the like)
- Lithium batteries
- Any other article the importation or circulation of which is prohibited in the country of destination

Restricted items
- Animals, products of animal origin, subject to authorisation from the veterinary control institutions of Kazakhstan. Plants, products of vegetable origin, with authorisation issued by the phytosanitary control institutions of Kazakhstan
- Works of art, antiques, other objects of value (artistic, historical, scientific or other), with the authorisation of the Ministry of Culture of Kazakhstan
- Funeral urns containing the ashes of the deceased, with a certificate from the local authorities declaring that they contain no extraneous matter
- Radio-electronic and high-frequency apparatus and installations, with the authorisation of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan
- Recorded media (floppy disks, video, audio), provided that information is supplied on the type of computer and the operating system used for recording
- Items that contain crystalline or powdery substances must be accompanied by origin and safety certification documents. Items not accompanied by the relevant documents confirming their origin and safety are prohibited.
