General guidelines

General guidelines from the Universal Postal Union on address guidelines. On outward international items, the name of the country of destination must always be printed:

• On the last line of address
• In capital letters
• Preferably in the language of the dispatching country or in an internationally recognized language

For many countries it is advisable to include the addressees mobile telephone number on parcels to assist in delivery.

 

Specific Czech Post address guidelines

Please refer to the list below and for further clarification, please refer to the recommended addressing guidelines on the Czech Post website

• Use Roman letters when writing an address on your item.
• Use clear, legible and sufficiently large letters without corrections. The minimum size of typed or printed letters is 0.25cm.
• Do not use red ink or luminescent pens. Such addresses are not machine readable and your item might be delayed.
• If you are addressing your item by hand, please use uppercase letters for the addressee's name.
• Do not underline the postcode and name of post office in domestic addresses.
• In international addresses, use uppercase letters for the post office and country of destination: do not underline them.

Specific Czech Post packaging guidelines

• Please ensure that the package is sufficiently secure to prevent any breaking into the item without leaving evident traces on the outer side of the package.
• Use an outer as well as inner package adequate to the nature and weight of the things within your item, manner and duration of relocation of the item and the manner of its handling during transmission and delivery.
• Please ensure that the package is sufficiently. (Solid to provide efficient protection to the things within your item against potential damage due to contact (friction, pressure, collision) with other items. Sufficient to protect the things within your item from damaging should the item fall freely from a height of 120cm and sufficient to protect the things within your item from damage due to weather effects.
• Please ensure that multiple items do not touch each other or the outer package.
• Use a package that is easy and safe to handle.
• You can send an item unpacked but only if it is sufficiently solid and the selected service expressly permits so. This is under the condition that there is no risk that the item could split during normal handling.
• When re-using a package, remove all traces (such as labels) of any previous delivery or other services provided through us from the outer side of the package.

• All live animals, except bees, leeches, silkworms, parasites and destroyers of noxious insects intended for the control of those insects and exchanged officially recognised institutions, flies of the family
• Drosophilidae for biomedical research exchanged between officially recognised institutions.
• Meat and edible meat offal
• Meat, meat of poultry.
• Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruit; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder
• Chicory roots (Cichorium intybus sativum).

General Notes

Import of animals (live or dead) for commercial purposes is allowed on the basis of:
Providing a veterinary certificate from the exporting country and the veterinary authorisation /CVED/ from the National Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (Státní veterinární správa České republiky) issued by BIP (Border Inspection Post).

For importation of food and products of animal origin for commercial purposes the customs authorities requires the Certificate of Quality issued by the National Veterinary Administration of country of exportation. If this authorisation is missing, the National Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (Státní veterinární správa České republiky) on the base of the addressee/consignee ´s demand must do it.

Import of products of animal origin for personal consumption

Product of animal origin (meat and meat product, milk and milk products, products of fishery, eggs determined for consumption and eggs products, bee products, snails and frogs) can be imported to the territory of the Czech Republic from the third countries through assigned border crossing points without veterinary checks of border inspection posts in non-business traffic, in case

– they were exposed to thermal treatment in air/proved packaging at the value for 3,00 or more, if their amount does not exceed 1 kg*;

– they are posted in small packets (by mail, mail order service, by rail in form of express parcel etc.) to natural persons, if their amount does not exceed 1 kg* and originate from the third country, which is not forbidden to import from.

From Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland the import of articles up to 5 kg for person/item is allowed.

The importation of raw meat and raw animal products for non-commercial purposes is prohibited. When importing for commercial or non-commercial purposes, it is necessary to submit to Customs CITES forms - CITES export permit and CITES import permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic (Ministerstvo životního prostředí) or must be presented the CITES export permit and notification about the importation.

For commercial importation, it is necessary to submit to Customs:

– a phytosanitary certificate;
 
– a CITES permit for CITES-listed species.
 
When importing for commercial or non-commercial purposes, it is necessary to submit to Customs CITES forms - CITES export permit and CITES import permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic (Ministerstvo životního prostředí) or must be presented the CITES export permit and notification about the import.
 
Import of vegetable goods of non-business nature
Consignments containing small amounts of plants and vegetable products, must not be accompanied by phytosanitary permissions issued in country of origin and these consignments are not subject to phytosanitary control when are imported to the Community, if it refers to:
 
– fresh fruits and vegetables, other than tubers, in amount not exceeding 2 kg per person,
– cut flowers and cuttings forming bunch of flowers, in amount 1 piece per person ,
– christmas trees (coniferous trees without roots) in amount 1 piece per person,
– wreaths of fresh vegetal and cuttings of coniferous trees in amount 1 piece per person,
– pot planes in amount 3 pieces per person,
– bulbs, tubers and undeground parts of decorative vegetal in amount 1 kg per person,
– seeds in original unbroken small-consumption packagings, other than seed of potato, beans, common sunflower, lucerne and tomato, in amount 5 pieces per person (total amount, not refering to each particular category of seed).
– tea, dried medicinal plants, dried fruits and nuts, spices and mixtures of spices in original unbroken small-consumption packagings, other than seed of potato, beans, common sunflower, lucerne and tomato, in amount 5 pieces per person.
 
Small amount of vegetables and vegetable products is represented by plants and vegetable products, which

• are imported from the third countries to the Community,
• are intended for personal use,
• are not intended for business purposes (goods of non-business nature),
• are not intended for scientific, research or cultivating purposes.

It is recommended to check with the Ministry of Agriculture (Ministerstvo zemědělství) whether a phytosanitary certificate is to be submitted to Customs for a particular type of imported goods www.mze.cz

General Notes
For the importation of animal fats and their cleavage products, prepared edible fats and animal waxes, Customs requires presentation of:
 – authorisation from the National Veterinary Administration of country of origin;
– the veterinary authorisation /CVED/ from the National Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (Státní veterinární správa České republiky)

When importing for commercial or non-commercial purposes, it is necessary to submit to Customs CITES forms - CITES export permit and CITES import permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic (Ministerstvo životního prostředí) or must be presented the CITES export permit and notification about the import.

Without CITES permit the caviar imported by post is permitted only up to 250 g per person.

If this authorisation is missing, the National Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (Státní veterinární správa České republiky) on the base of the addressee/consignee ´s demand must do it.
• Raw sugar.

• Molasses. Sugar confectionery not containing cocoa.
• Cocoa and cocoa preparations. See General Notes Sugars and sugar confectionery above. This does not apply to goods and products containing CITES-listed products, in which case a CITES permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment must be presented.
• Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; pastrycooks' products

Commercial importation requires:
– a veterinary certificate (for milk);
– a CITES permit for CITES-listed species.

For non-commercial importation, the veterinary or phytosanitary certificate is not required for packaged food indicating place of production. This does not apply to consignments containing CITES-listed products, in which case a CITES forms - CITES export permit and CITES import permit issued by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic (Ministerstvo životního prostředí) or must be presented the CITES export permit and notification about the import.

For importation of products of vegetable origin for commercial purposes the customs authorities requires the Certificate of Quality issued by the National Veterinary Administration of country of exportation. If this authorisation is missing, the National Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (Státní veterinární správa České republiky) on the base of the addressee/consignee ´s demand must do it.

Commercial importation requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy;
– a certificate from a national testing centre.
 
For non-commercial importation, 1 Ltr of spirits and 2 Ltrs of wine per person are generally admitted.

For the non-commercial importation of food intended for animals, Customs requires a phytosanitary or veterinary certificate. A certificate is not required for goods contained in packing ready for use.
 
For importing residues and wastes from the food industry, it is necessary to submit authorisation from the Ministry of the Environment.

• Flours and meals of meat and aquatic invertebrates.

– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy;
– a phytosanitary certificate;
– a certificate from a national testing centre.
 
For importing tobacco refuse, it is necessary to submit to Customs import authorisation from the Ministry of the Environment.

Non-commercial importation is permitted only for packaged products ready to use, with an indication of the contents by the producer. Edible salt is admitted only in the producer's original packing.

For importing waste and residues, Customs require import authorisation from the Czech Republic Ministry of the Environment.

Slag (granulated) from the manufacture of iron or steel.

Ash and residues containing metal or metal compounds.

• Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes
• Anthracite. Bituminous coal. Other coal.

Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals, of radioactive elements or of isotopes. For all products in this section, commercial importation requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Health;

For importing radioactive isotopes, it is necessary to submit to Customs authorisation from the Ministry of Health.

For importing waste, it is necessary to submit to Customs authorisation from the Ministry of the Environment of Czech Republic.

• Biochemical products or their compounds intended for agricultural use are subject to phytosanitary control.
• Hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metals, Phosphorus, Arseni, Hydrochloric acid, Sulphuric acid, Hydrofluoric acid, Other inorganic acids, Halides and sulphides. Phosphorous chloride, Phosphorous sulphide, Solid sodium hydroxide, Zinc oxide, Tungsten oxide and hydroxide, Ammonium or sodium fluoride, Other fluorides, Other chlorides, Sodium sulphides, Lead and mercury sulphates, Nitrites, nitrates, Hypophosphites, phosphites and phosphates, Barium carbonate, Sodium cyanide, Potassium permanganate, Salt of selenium telluric acid, Precious metals, Other Precious metals (gold compounds), Other compounds; amalgams, Radioactive elements, Artificial radioactive isotopes, Heavy water (deuterium oxide), Phosphides, Calcium carbides, Hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides, Other inorganic compounds.

  The following applies for all products in this section:-
  For importing waste, it is necessary to submit to Customs authorisation from the Ministry of the Environment of Czech Republic.

For the importation of medicaments containing narcotics and psychotropic substances for personal use is necessary to submit the licence from the Ministry of the Economy of Czech Republic

• Benzene. Toluene. Carbon tetrachloride. Ethylene dichloride. Methylchloroform. Chloroethylene. Trichloroethylene. Perchloroethylene. Fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons. Halogenated derivatives. Sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of hydrocarbons, whether or not halogenated. Methyl alcohol. Methylpentane. Halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols. Derivatives of phenol-alcohols. Ethers. Other ethers and their derivatives. For importing vehicles (tractors, road tractors, motor vehicles for more than 10 persons, including driver, eg minibus), it is necessary to submit to Customs:
– a certification from the Ministry of Transport (Ministerstvo dopravy) as an approved importer.

A natural or legal person that is not an approved importer must submit:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

For importing motor vehicles (eg minibus, motor vehicles for transporting persons, fire-fighting vehicles, crane lorries, concrete-mixer lorries, motorcycles and mopeds), a natural or legal person not having certification from the Ministry of Transport as an approved importer, or the agreement of an approved importer, is required to submit:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

An approved importer having certification from the Ministry of Transport is also authorised to import spare parts for these vehicles.

A natural or legal person not having certification from the Ministry of Transport as an approved importer, or the agreement of an approved importer, is required to submit:

For motor vehicles adapted for the transport of goods or fitted with lifting or handling equipment, and small tractors and work trucks used in warehouses, dock areas, etc, a certificate from the National Office of Standards and Testing of the Czech Republic must be issued, in accordance with the Law on National Testing, for certification, and the importer is required to submit to border Customs a certificate from a corresponding National testing centre (Státní zkušebna).

The importation of tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles and their spare parts (for the defence and security of the State) requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy.

The importation of bicycles, non-motorized tricycles, invalid carriages or motorised or mechanically propelled vehicles requires:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

Customs also requires a certificate for the importation of spare parts for bicycles.

The importation of baby carriages, trailers, caravans, camper vans, etc, requires:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

The importation of other trailers for the transport of goods requires:
– certification from the Ministry of Transport (Ministerstvo dopravy) regarding approved importers.

A natural or legal person not having the certification of the Ministry of Transport as an approved importer, or the agreement of an approved importer, is required to submit:

For importing airplanes, spacecraft and parts thereof, a certificate from the National Aeronautics Office must be presented.

The importation of airplanes, helicopters and spare parts thereof requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy.

The importation of civilian aircraft requires:
– a certificate from the National Aeronautics Office.

The importation of parachutes, paragliders, aircraft launching gear and spare parts thereof for civilian use requires:
– a certificate from the National Aeronautics Office.

The importation of these same articles for military use requires:

Importation of instruments and apparatus, according to their use

1 The importation of optical fibres, optical fibre cables, special technologies and their products is subject to the particular system in each country.

2 The importation of spectacles, goggles or the like, lenses, contact lenses:
– for medical use requires a certificate from a national testing centre;
– for cameras requires a licence from the Ministry of the Economy.

3 The importation of filters:
– for use in civilian aircraft requires a certificate from the National Aeronautics Office;
– for military use requires a licence from the Ministry of the Economy.

4a The importation of frames and mountings for spectacles, goggles or the like:
– in plastic or in precious metal requires a certificate from a national testing centre;
– manufactured with CITES-listed products requires a CITES permit.

4b The importation of spectacles, goggles or the like as a medical aid or as protective eyewear at work requires a certificate from a national testing centre.

5 The importation of field glasses, telescopes and apparatus intended for military use requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy or these articles are subject to a particular system.

6 The importation of photographic cameras, except cinematographic cameras not subject to certification (see list of obligatory products) requires the presentation of a certificate. A certificate is also required, based on the use made of these cameras.

7 The importation of bulbs requires:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

8 The importation of film requires a certificate, also based on use.

9a The importation of microscopes for military use requires:
– a licence from the Ministry of the Economy.

9b The importation of microscopes for medical use requires:

The musical instruments the sound of which is produced, or must be amplified, electrically are subject to certification.

The importation of arms for other purposes requires:

Non-commercial importation requires:

The importer must present to Customs a firearms permit issued by the office representing Czech Republic in the exporting country or by a corresponding police unit in the importing country.

The importation of historical firearms is not restricted.

The importation of arms and parts thereof, manufactured with CITES-listed products, requires:
– a CITES permit.

The importation of ammunition by collectors is permitted only in smaller packing.

Commercial importation requires:
For the importation of seats used for aircraft, Customs requires:
– a certificate from the National Aeronautics Office.

For the importation of seats for motor vehicles, the natural or legal person without authorisation from the Ministry of Transport as an approved importer, or without the agreement of an approved importer, must present:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

The importation of products and parts thereof listed in CITES requires:
– a CITES permit.

If these products are manufactured with other certified materials, Customs requires:
– a certificate from a national testing centre.

Non-commercial importation requires:
– a CITES permit for products containing human or animal hair listed in CITES.

In accordance with legal regulations, used upholstered furniture cannot be imported.

- a declaration of conformity or certificate from a national testing centre for set of writing utensil, handpiece for pens, pencils and similar products and their parts, ball-point pen refill, etc.

The importation of products and parts thereof listed in CITES requires:
– a CITES permit.
Non-commercial importation requires:
– a CITES permit for products containing human or animal hair listed in CITES.

• Works of art, collectors' pieces and antiques

In accordance with legal regulations, used products cannot be imported.

The importation of antiques and cultural goods from third countries is not restricted. The importation of products and parts thereof listed in CITES requires:
